Weekly Updates

Week Ending Friday, 2nd March 2018

Our timetable this week looks a little different because it will be an assessment week. 

We would like to thank our parents for encouraging their children to read more. We have noticed an increase in the number of children reading for pleasure. Great news for everyone so please keep it up. 

Maths: Year 5 will be carrying out maths assessments. Year 6 will continue to learn about algebra.

English: We will be carrying out reading assessments and fun activities linked to World Book Day.

Spelling: Suffix 'ity'/Prefixes super, sub, inter and common exception words

SPaG: We will be carrying out a SPaG assessment. 

Topic: We will learn about Anne Frank.

PSHE: British Values.We will be learning about Tolerance.

PE: Endurance and rugby 

Art: We will continue to work on our image boards.

Thank you for all the Anderson shelter homework projects we have already received. Earth class enjoyed sampling an edible version!

Maths: Our focus this week will be algebra and arithmetic

English: We will be imitating a persuasive text and looking at the key features.

Spelling: Suffix 'ness'/Contractions and common exception words.

SPaG: Fronted adverbials and word classes

Topic: We will be learning about the Holocaust. 

PSHE: What does it mean to be resilient? We will be watching a video clip about Derek Redmond. 

PE: Endurance and rugby

Art: We will be creating image boards.

Thank you to everyone who got involved in Sleep Week and worked hard to go to bed just a little earlier. We certainly noticed less yawning in Year 5/6!

English: We will be innovating a letter using the key features in our writing toolbox.

SPaG: Ambitious punctuation which will include using parenthesis, semi colons and hyphens. We will also continue to work on using ambitious sentence signposts.

Spelling: Prefixes circ, tele and trans

We would like Year 6 children to please return their B-PROACT1V letters.

English: We will be working on a setting description of the Blitz. We will also be analysing a text and writing a letter from a family member based on the Blitz. 

SPaG: Subordinate clauses with sentence openers. Making  powerful verb choices.

Please remember to complete your homework.All of our Year 6 pupils will have a visit from Bristol Universtity on Monday about the B-PROACAT1V project which involves the British Heart Foundation. They will be measuring our levels of activity and hopefully it will inspire our children to be even more active. We have subscribed to BBC Super Movers which has great videos for times tables and other areas of Maths. Please check it out out! Be active and improve your Maths at the same time. A big thank you to everyone who supported our Bike/Scooter Week. It was fantastic to see so many of you at our Biker's Breakfast. Stay active and bike/scooter or walk your way to school.

English: This week we will be innovating our diary text and also working on figurative language.

SPaG: We will focus on fronted adverbials and various types of punctuation. 

Maths: We will continue to work on multiplication with decimals. 

PSHE: Understanding money. Thinking about our money and how to look after it. 

History: We will focus on the Blitz and locate target areas on a map. 

Computing: Understanding and using podcasts. 

Science: We will be describing the changes that happen when materials are mixed.

Art: Black and white pencil drawings. 

PE: Dance and Badminton

Music: Listening to music that was used for propaganda and singing songs to lift our spirits.

It's Bike Week so be active and scooter or bike your way to school. Bling your bike or scooter for Monday and you could win yourself a prize. We've got lots of fun things planned so please support us by leaving the car at home.

Please remember to sign your child's reading record.

Please also work on your weekly spellings and maths hoemwork. 

English: We will be using Talk for Writing with a focus on diary writing.

SPaG: We will cover adjectives, verbs, adverbs and paragraphs in our diary writing text.

Maths: We will focus on multiplication this week, looking at methods and applying our knowledge.

Please remember that we expect your child to read for ten minutes, at least five times a week. This can be their library book, a magazine, recipe book or a book they have chosen. Reading is an essential part of your child's learning. Please sign their reading journals.  Thank you for your continued support. 

Homework and Spellings

Your child will receive weekly spellings to learn at home. We expect our children to read at least five times a week for a minimum of ten minutes. Reading is a very important part of your child's learning. Every child will take home a weekly arithmetic paper and please encourage your child to complete this weekly and return to school.
