Welcome to Reception

Our current topic is: Alive and Kicking

This term we will be learning about life cycles.

First we will be looking at living things, non-living things and things that used to be living. We will then be focussing on the life cycle of frog. Looking at how they grow and change.

Our focus book this term will be The Tadpole’s Promise. This is a really lovely story about a tadpole and a caterpillar.

This week (week ending 23rd February) 

Maths: In maths we will be looking at teen numbers.

English: We will be looking at living and non-living things writing sentences about how we know things are living.

Phonics:  We will be 'hunting for digraphs'!

Understanding the worldWe will be going on nature walks pointing out things that are living. We will also have a visit from a dental hygienist helping us to learn how to look after our teeth. In discovery time the children will be growing cress ready to try next week.

Personal, Social and EmotionalWe will be thinking about our greenie rules and how to follow them. We will also be learning about how to have a growth mind-set.

Expressive Arts and Design: We will be carrying out observational drawings of flowers. We will be exploring different parts of flowers and cutting them up to make our own pictures. We will then experiment with using the leaves to make perfume.

Physical Development: This term we will be doing Active Maths in PE. The children will be playing lots of different maths games while being active.

Reading - Please read with your child daily. Reading books will be changed weekly.

Key words - Key words are essential in supporting your child to read please practice them little and often.

Thursday 1st World Book Day

Focus book The Matchbox Diaries

Please remember on Thursday the children can dress as their favourite book character and need to bring a small box into school with one thing that is special to them.

Maths: In maths we will be learning about doubling.

English: We will be looking at the book week focus ‘The Matchbox Diaries ‘ We will be writing sentences about things that are special to us.

Phonics:  We will be 'hunting for digraphs'!

Understanding the world: We will be collecting tadpoles from the pond and learning about the life cycle of a frog. We will also have a visit from some baby bunnies learning more about rabbits and how they change.

Personal, Social and Emotional: We will be thinking about our greenie rules and how to follow them. We will also be learning about how to have a growth mind-set.

Expressive Arts and Design: We will be exploring different media and materials to make pictures.

Physical Development: This term we will be doing Active Maths in PE. The children will be playing lots of different maths games while being active.
